Recommendations and Contraindications for Eyeglass Care
Proper care of your eyeglasses is essential to ensure their longevity, visual clarity, and wearing comfort.
Recommendations (Do’s)
Daily cleaning
- Use water and mild soap (pH neutral): The most effective method is to rinse both lenses and the frame with lukewarm water, then apply a small amount of gentle liquid soap (no moisturizer, no alcohol, no abrasives).
- Gently rub: Carefully clean both sides of the lenses and all parts of the frame (nose pads, temples) using your fingertips.
- Rinse thoroughly: Rinse well with lukewarm water to remove all soap residue.
- Dry with a tissue or microfiber cloth: Ensure the microfiber cloth is clean before use.
Care and handling
- Store in a hard case: When not wearing your glasses, always keep them in a protective hard case to prevent damage and dust buildup.
- Use both hands when putting on or taking off: Always handle the frame with both hands to avoid bending the temples or misaligning the hinges.
- Place lenses facing upward: If you set them down temporarily, make sure the lenses are facing upward on a clean surface.
- Check screw tightness: If the temples or lenses become loose, visit us before any irreversible damage occurs.
- Professional adjustment: Have your glasses adjusted by an optician if they become misaligned or uncomfortable.
Contraindications (Strictly avoid)
What NOT to use for cleaning
- Inappropriate fabrics or paper: NEVER use clothing (even a shirt corner), as fibers can trap debris and scratch the lenses.
- Aggressive household products: Avoid alcohol, vinegar, bleach, or household glass cleaners, as they may damage lens coatings and frame materials.
- Saliva: Saliva is not an effective cleaner and may leave residues or contain harmful substances.
- Strong alcohols or solvents: Unless specifically recommended, pure alcohol or solvents can damage your eyewear.
What NOT to do with your glasses
- Wearing on your head: Do not wear your glasses on top of your head, as this can stretch and deform the frame.
- Exposure to heat: Avoid leaving glasses in very hot environments (car dashboard, near ovens, hair dryers), as heat can warp frames and damage lens coatings.
- Sleeping with glasses: Never sleep with your glasses on, as this can severely bend or break them.
- Dry wiping lenses: Do not rub lenses when dry; always rinse first to remove debris before wiping.
